We completed a report about our location. We concluded that we will be shooting the intro in Miami Beach. It is the perfect spot for our movies plot line. Here is the report:
I Hope I Get It…(Casting Call)
On February 8, 2019 , my group and I decided who we wanted to cast as our leads in our movie. We had, had a general idea of who we wanted. We tried to associate each character with an actual person we know to give the movie some sort of authenticity. For Otis, we are using Andy Cabrera, a well known actor in our school. For Diana, we asked Diana Rodriguez, an actress from the drama club, to play this character. She is also Andy’s girlfriend which I think will make the love story much more raw and believable. Lastly, for our character Josh, we picked Abraham Arias who is another well known actor in the drama club. Since, they are all a part of drama club, they all have a lot of experience in the acting department.
For our background characters, we are choosing to use the whole drama club as extras in the back because they are all very outgoing and fun which make the atmosphere of the film more realistic. Their role is to dance to the music playing in the background. They represent the party happening at the beach.
We have already received approval from all of these people and they are all very excited for this project!
Flaunting Fonts
This first movie is Teen Beach Movie. This font is large and loud as well as adding quirkiness to the theme of beach party. It is perfect to create a mood of party and excitement.

This movie is a little bit older, but still consists of vibrant colors and a creative font. Therefore it applies to our movie. I like this font because of how the letters are shaped. They are constructed to look as though they are surfing with the characters on the poster. It’s a cute way to hint at the theme and tone of the movie, quirky and giddy.

This movie has the font and color of a vibrant 80s movie. It can definitely foreshadow the theme of the movie. This font looks very Hawaiian which I enjoy to because usually people associate beach with tikis and Hawaii. I also enjoy the wiggly lines under it to because it makes the font and style pop out more so we might do that with out title and font.
Considered Fonts:

Tropical Asian Font – I think this is a laid back font that could definitely add some aesthetic and enthusiasm to our movie introduction. It looks natural as though someone wrote it with paint which i appreciate because it can seem as though one of the characters wrote it or something.

Mf Sippin on Sunshine – The fact that this font is shaded in with color adds a youthful aspect to it. It would look very nice with a shaded pink since this is also a love story apart from the beach party. This font reminds me of teenagers. I associate it with a teenager waiting for summer to come and scribbling on his notepad.

Hanalei – This is a cute font because it fits the theme of beach party. It would be a nice simple fit for our love story on the beach. Th won’t thong I don’t like about this font however is that it’s too close to Hawaii and our film is set in Miami so I wouldn’t want people to think the film is set in Hawaii.
“BEAT” It 🎧
After researching through online sources, we came upon the perfect song four our intro. This process was tedious due to the fact that the song had to not be copyrighted in order to be able to use. We found the perfect song from a channel on YouTube. This channel is called Cinematic Sounds and the song we chose was called Retro Life – Funky. This song fit perfectly with the theme of the 80’s which is the time period which our movie will be set in. In addition, it is a party song so our extras can dance to it, since they’re at a beach party. Although we think it is a perfect fit for our movie, it was one of the few options we had. There are not that many songs that give off that 80’s vibe. This song truly is perfect to use because it isn’t too slow or too fast or cantinas too many effects in it. Take a listen!
Sound of Movie
Earlier this week I learned the intricacies that come with using sound in movies. We went into depth about the different types of sounds, when is sound appropriate to use and insight on what the director is trying to portray by using sound. We learned a lot of key vocabulary terms as well, such as the difference between diegetic and non-diegetic sounds. For instance, a diegetic sound is any sound the character can hear, where as a non- diegetic sound is any sound the character can not hear. All these terms helped me understand more or less what kind of tone and movie I have in mind because music and sound influences that aspect of a film greatly. For example, scary films have a very suspenseful music score where as romantic comedies have more giddy tunes being played.
I plan on using sound effects because they do enhance the environment the characters are set in. I’ve also concluded that for my miniature film I will have to record a lot of ambient sounds such as the waves crashing against each other and seagulls squawking to create a more realistic beach atmosphere for the audience watching. I will most definitely use dialogue so that the audience can be aware of the character’s personality and authenticity. For the intro scene I planned on filming a group of teens dancing to demonstrate there is a party going on and having incidental music so that when the main characters speak the party atmosphere is not interrupted.
The foley project was fun to do and it gave the group an idea of ways we will be able to record sound for our film. We had to play around with different objects and sounds to be able to mix and match. For example, we used the opening and closing of a zipper to make the sound of a record being played like a d.j. I had also learned that you have to pay close attention to timing and making sure the sounds synchronize with the action being done on screen if not it looks odd. I know now that voice over is what it’s called when u record the sound separately. This project was a good preview and practice when introducing sound.
In a Title Sequence far far away……..
A title sequence is a method that television uses to present their title, cast members, and key productions by using different unique visuals and sounds. For example, a title sequence that I’ve seen often is the one for the movie “Star Wars”. The words Star and Wars roses from the screen making it seem super galactic capturing the audiences attention quickly. As I researched I came across two title sequences that caught my eye and I felt could related to how I want my title sequence to look like. The first title sequence was from the movie “40 days and 40 Nights”. This title sequence fits the style of my groups movie because it has bright colors and tells a story through its intro. The vibe we want for our title sequence is one that is fun and upbeat. The title sequence for “40 Days and 40 Nights” gives off that same feeling. Another example would be the title sequence for “Chariots of Fire”. In this title sequence there are characters running on the beach. The beach is the opening location for our movie so it was interesting seeing a title sequence that included a beach in it. This website was very useful do to its variety of examples and genres. It demonstrated how to incorporate genres and title sequences all at once emphasizing unique ways to creating a title sequence.

Coming to a Theater Near You……
The genre we chose for our movie was beach party/romance. Our movie would begin with shots of people dancing and partying at the beach. Then we close in on a boy standing alone watching the party. He sees a beautiful girl and feels the urge to go talk and be with her as she dances and has fun. He tries to reach out to her, but there are too many obstacles in the way. The place is too crowded and there’s different activities going on. When he finally gets to her and they meet its love at first sight. She leans in to kiss him and then the scene completely shifts to the boy sleeping on his beach chair. Turns out it was all just a dream and that will be the introduction of our movie. One can assume the movie will be about this young man trying to get that girl with the help of a little romance and some beach partying.

Every Audience Matters
As a cohesive group we decided what audience to target for our movie based on the content of movies that match our genre. All beach party/romance movies are about young love, partying and living life to the fullest. Plots such as those tend to attract teens and young adults for they can relate and like to party. The research process was done by deciding to speak to the public. The public consisting of teens, and young adults was surveyed. We surveyed ten people around our school. There were five females and five males. We asked them questions about what kind of movies they liked and what genres they preferred. Our target age was 13 and up. We also asked what their favorite aspect of a movie is most important in their opinion. Everyone had different likes and views which was enjoyable to observe and survey.
