Creative Critical Question 2
Of I had to advertise and market the film I would use Instagram for a lot of teens use it also adults and it’s very well known. And then I would release the movie at a drive in just to give it that old time feel which I think would be unique for teens and adults to experience together. Thank you.
Creative Critical Question 1
One of our scenes is having Diana, the prettiest girl in school, stand on a sand hill, and there we shot it at a high angle so that she represents dominance and authority over our other main character Andy (played by Andy name is Otis) who is in love with her. She has this power over him that he can’t control.
We used close ups to overwhelm the audience and also have Andy demonstrating some solitude and a feeling of unrequited love because you see his emotions on a closer, deeper level.
It represents social groups and issues by showing how Otis, our main character, feels outcasted and only his dreams can he actually overcome all his fantasies of being with the prettiest girl at school and going to party. A lot of teens nowadays have anxiety and depression and they feel like they don’t fit in so we were trying to emphasize that in this film by having him have this dream. Thank you.
It’s a Hard, Rough Cut for Us…
This is a rough layout of what our movie plot is going to look like. It includes the most major scenes and stars the members of DSGS Productions.
Let’s be Productive
In class, I sat with my group and Ms.Padro (teacher) to discuss our productivity. Everything so far has been perfectly on track. We have been up to date with most of our blog posts as well as editing for the movie. We are almost entirely done with the movie project, however, we seem to be stuck in the editing process. We are moving along smoothly, but some things are more difficult to accomplish such as the voice overs. We also had a tough time with the title sequence of our movie since it had to be created from scratch using a font that actually appealed to us and corresponded to the mood of the movie. We finally resolved this situation by issuing Sippin on Sunshine font and developing a beautiful shade of orange for the coloring. As of now everything is going as planned.
Final Production Meeting!
We are finally heading towards the finish line! The voiceover process got a little complicated, but luckily we resolved it and were able to get it done as well as finally finishing our credits. We asked the two actors in our movie to come in and film their voices speaking the dialogue. This was rough because they had to perfectly match the voice to the motion of their mouths. We did the recording separately because of time complications. One of the actors wasn’t here while the other was. When we put it into the editing system, we had to slow down the recordings because they were still to fast for video filmed. It was so difficult matching lip motion and dialogue. The final touch up is the volume of the voice overs themselves for they are a little loud.
First Production Meeting
During this production meeting we regrouped and edited. We had a bit of a struggle trying to get through the editing due to our lack of experience in this area. We used a new program called Adobe Premiere Pro and it was very tedious. We all tried to use the program in class, but luckily Gaby downloaded the program for 7 days on her computer. So on one day, the group went to her house and worked on the movie. Once we spent some time editing our movie it was then edited into place with filter colors and transitions from scene to scene. We added ambient sounds in the back that included the 80s music, waves and seagull noises to make the scene seem more authentic. Next step is to work on the voice overs and add beginning credits.

Let’s Play Dress Up
Our wardrobe really played into our theme and vision. We want our actors to look as 80s as possible. We asked them to wear the most bright and retro bathing suits they have. We encouraged them to also style their hair as 80s as they see fit. We also had some inspirations as to what we had hoped for them to look like, which are shown below. In addition, it was pretty convenient that a local store called “Forever 21” released an 80s beach section which our actresses enjoyed shopping at.

The image above is 80’s beach attire and the video under demonstrates two of our actresses wearing retro and vibrant accessories and bathing suits.
